Yumiko’s Handmade Sakiori Pouches
Tradition woven into every thread.
Sakiori is a traditional Japanese weaving technique that dates back to the Edo period. It involves carefully tearing old, well-loved cloth into thin strips and weaving them into something entirely new—giving forgotten fabrics a second life as clothing or everyday essentials.
Originally practiced by farm women during the off-season, this craft reflects a deep-rooted cultural value: to cherish materials and use them to their fullest.
Each pouch is made using cotton warp yarns and sakiori-style weft, creating a fabric that is not only strong and warm, but also softens beautifully with use. No two pieces are alike—each one tells its own story through its texture and color.
