Meisho Edo hyakkei (One hundred Famous Views of Edo), a major work from the last years of Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858).Divided into four sections (spring, summer, autumn, winter), the series of works depicting the true face of Edo as it appears in each of the four seasons shows Hiroshige's deep attachment to the town of Edo, where he was born and raised.

Spring section from the Eight Famous Views of Edo Yotsugioryosuihikifune Hikibune (towing boats) is a method of transport in which the boatman does not move the boat with an oar or pole, but pulls it from the shore with a rope to transport passengers. The waterway depicted is the Honjo-yosui, but due to the narrow width and shallow depth of the waterway, it seems that towing boats were the only method of boat transport.
